BOPP Tape Buying Guide

Choosing BOPP tape comes down to four decisions. This is the short overview; each section links to a detailed guide if you want to go deeper.

1. Micron — match thickness to carton weight

Micron is the total tape thickness (backing film plus adhesive). Higher micron mainly adds a thicker adhesive coat and more puncture resistance, not just "thicker plastic." 38 micron is the everyday market default and handles most 10–30kg cartons; step up to 48–50 micron only for genuinely heavy or export shipments — monsoon season alone doesn't require it.

2. Width — match it to carton size and flap

48mm is the dominant sealing width and the right default for most small-to-medium cartons. Move to 72mm only when the flap is long or the board is weak. Narrow 24mm is for bundling and labeling, not sealing.

3. Adhesive — acrylic vs hot-melt, by conditions

Water-based acrylic is the cost-effective default for standard shipping — including ordinary monsoon-season and coastal shipments — and releases cleanly. Hot-melt is the exception for direct rain/water exposure, genuinely extended humid storage, export, and recycled/damp board where the seal cannot fail.

4. Taping pattern — single-strip vs H-taping

Width and micron don't matter if the pattern is wrong. A single strip is fine for light parcels; use H-taping (top seam plus both side edges) for anything over ~5kg or export-bound — it matters more than most buyers expect.
